How much capital was mobilized in Latin America during 2023?
According to the most recent report by TTR Data and Datasite , Brazil leads the ranking of the most active countries in the region by number of transactions, with 103 operations, which implies a decrease of 26% , and a reduction in mobilized capital of 11% . remaining at 1,819 million dollars (about 1,690 million euros).
Europa Press publishes that Chile is followed in the registry , with 13 transactions (with a decrease of 61%) and a drop of 69% in terms of the amount compared to January 2023 , decreasing to 77 million dollars ( 71.5 million euros). For its part, Colombia rises in the ranking , with 12 transactions (a decrease of 40%) and with an increase of 4,174% in mobilized capital , reaching 465 million dollars (432 million euros).
Mexico drops one position in the ranking and registers 12 transactions (56% less) and a 101% increase in the capital mobilized in year-on-year terms , with 156 million dollars (145 million euros).
Meanwhile, Argentina decreases its activity and registers 5 transactions (a decrease of 44%), with an increase of 227% in its amount , rising to approximately 46.5 million euros, which makes the southern country, along with Mexico and Colombia , the only ones on the market with positive figures.
Lastly, Peru added a total of six transactions , which is equivalent to a drop of 14% and mobilized 14 million dollars (13 million euros), 91% less than in the same month of the previous year.
In the cross-border area, the investment appetite of Latin American companies abroad stands out in January , especially in Europe and North America , where 5 and 4 transactions have been carried out, respectively. For their part, the companies that have carried out the most strategic transactions in Latin America come from North America and Europe , with 25 and 14 exchanges, respectively.
By type of transaction, a total of 9 Private Equity exchanges have been recorded for 527 million dollars (about 490 million euros), which represents a downward trend both in the number of transactions (25% drop) and in its amount (8% decline).
In the first month of the year, the Venture Capital segment recorded a total of 39 transactions with an aggregate amount of 255 million dollars (about 237 million euros). In year-on-year terms, it implies a negative variation of 47% in the number of transactions and a decrease of 15% in their amount .
Finally, in the Asset Acquisitions segment, 29 transactions have been registered, for a value of 813 million dollars (755 million euros), which represents an increase of 7% in the number of transactions and a 92% increase in their amount, compared to the same period in 2023.
