Dealmaking activity in Latin America had a poor start to the year, with January figures continuing the sluggishness seen in 2022, according to a monthly report from research firm TTR Data and SaaS provider Datasite.
The region saw 162 transactions in the month, including M&As, asset acquisitions, and venture capital and private equity deals, down 50.9% year-on-year, based on the data compiled with the support of professional and financial services firm Aon.
The total aggregate deal value for January was US$1.35bn, plummeting 80.4% year-on-year, although values were only disclosed for around 46% of the transactions, said TTR.
Most of the deals (84) were M&A, followed by VC transactions (51), asset acquisitions (20) and PE (9), with transactions in technology and internet leading the way.
By country, Brazil led with 107 deals in January, down 54% decrease, followed by Chile (24, down 8%) and Mexico (17, down 50%).
